Erik was born and raised in Houston, Texas. As a teenager he wanted to find a way to express himself artistically. Since he wasn’t very good at drawing, he decided to try his hand at photography. He spent many hours after school in the darkroom, having fun with the process. Fast-forward a few years, and Erik found himself [happily] stationed in San Diego, California in the Marine Corps. He purchased his first personal camera, a Fujifilm X-T1, and took it with him on flights in the MV-22 Osprey helicopter. The rare and dramatic photographic subjects Erik was exposed to help accelerate his portfolio, and documenting what he saw as an aircrewman made his job that much more fun.

After 5 years and 4 months in the Marine Corps, Erik was honorably discharged, and stayed in the San Diego area to continue to enjoy the hiking, camping, and surfing, and graduated from the University of San Diego with a BS in Finance.

So why does he call title himself, a “photographer at large?” Since entering the professional space, Erik has shot family portraits, fashion, sky diving events, weddings, company parties, boudoir, and candid street photography. He believes sticking to any one genre leads to creative stagnation; he would rather enjoy and excel in all methods of photography! Why limit yourself to a particular style? Erik is particularly passionate about landscape photography, and sells beautiful paper and metal prints of his work. Landscapes are very satisfying for Erik, because he loves being outdoors! After working for friends and family for 7 years, he launched his professional website in 2021.
